The purpose of this chapter is to make the case that systemic theorists in international relations have overlooked a way of thinking about the international system that is particularly well-suited to solving the analytic problems that that system presents. The tools of dynamic equation-based modeling are ideal both for generating the kinds of general-equilibrium predictions that systemic theories of IR should ideally produce and for testing those theories utilizing quantitative data.
